In Taekwon-Do we wear a belt that signifies the rank of the student or instructor.   Belts should only be worn during a Taekwon-Do Function: Class, Tournament, Demo, etc.   Also you should not eat or drink anything while wearing your belt.

WhiteBelt signifies innocence, as that of the beginning student who has no previous knowledge of Taekwon-Do.

YellowBelt signifies earth, from which a plant sprouts and takes root, as Taekwon-Do foundation is being laid.

Green Belt signifies the plant's growth as the Taekwon-Do skills begin to develop.

Blue Belt signifies the heaven toward which the plant matures into a towering tree as training in Taekwon-Do progresses.

RedBelt signifies danger, cautioning the student to exercise care and control and warns opponents to stay away.

Black Belt is opposite of white. Signifies maturity and proficiency in Taekwon-Do. Also signifies the wearer's imperviousness to darkness and fear. Black is also the mixture of all other colors.

The chart below shows the grade (gup) of each color belt, the color of the belt plus any stripes, and the minimum number of months of training at that belt before the student can be eligible to test for their next belt.
